Another year of fly fishing is ahead of us. This
is an exciting time in fly fishing as women are becoming more recognized
in the sport of angling. If you’re interested in women and fly
fishing, you have found the BEST website. I welcome you to Georgia Women
Flyfishers. Our club can help you along your lifelong adventure in fly
fishing.
We offer assistance in your pursuit of fly fishing through the spirit
of fellowship.
Here is a brief look at what we have coming up this year! We start the
year off with a Mardi Gras-themed Fundraiser in February. View the Holiday
Party tab for details about our yearly fundraiser. Our new Mentor Program
is officially launched this year. Please contact our Education Director:
Deb Bowen if you are interested in participating in the program throughout
the year. The club will be conducting a Beginners Fly Fishing Class
on March 22nd and an Intermediate Class on April 26th of 2008. In May,
we will be camping at Tremont Campground in Townsend, TN. Check out
the Spring Charter Trip tab for information. Casting for Confidence
is our day to introduce Breast Cancer Survivors to the sport of fly
fishing. This year, CFC will be at Noontootla Creek Farm in the North
Georgia Mountains in early June. Later into the summer, look for us
catching trout on dry flies as we are floating down the Hiwassee River
in TN. Florida’s Mosquito Lagoon is where you will find us fly
fishing for redfish to support Hunt for Redfish and the Alzheimer’s
Association in November. Visit www.huntforredfish.kintera.org
for information on Hunt for Redfish. You will see why we chose this
great event as our club trip for 2008.
Come join us at our monthly meetings. We have variety of speakers from
the fly fishing industry come talk to us and share their fishing tips.
We have “match the hatch” and raffle items at the end of
the each meeting. Look under the Calendar tab on our website for updated
details about meetings. July is the only month without a meeting because
we having our LUAU for the Summer Party. Beginners to Experienced Anglers
are always welcomed at our After Meeting Fish. Every Saturday after
our monthly meeting we gather to fly fish. Members travel to picturesque
freestone and tail water streams from Georgia to North Carolina. Carolyn
Wilder is our club Ghillie. She will have information about After Meeting
Fish available at the meetings.
I hope this letter gives you some insight into our year at GWFF. We
will be volunteering at various functions throughout the year such as
Unicoi Outdoor Adventure Days. We look forward to seeing you at one
of our meetings or events. Come share your fly fishing stories and fish
pictures with us. If you see a Georgia Women Flyfisher on the stream,
say hello. We might just tell you what we are catching all those fish
on.
Looking forward to seeing you on the stream,
Becky Hulsey
