Questions & Answers

Q: How do I join?
A: Fill out a membership application - you can obtain an application here or at the monthly meeting or email the membership coordinator and request that one is sent by mail. Our membership is $55 the first year. This includes membership to the Federation Fly Fishers ($35)and GWFF dues of $20. Your
FFF membership will be good for one year then it is up to you to renew on your own. We encourage you to continue your FFF dues – as we want to be 100% FFF club.

Q: Where are the meetings held and when?
A: Our meetings are the 2nd Monday of every month and are held in the back room of the Delkwood Grill in Marietta. Take I75 North exit Delk Road- Turn right off exit. Go ¼ mile up big hill and the Delkwood Grill is on the left. Meeting starts at 7pm. Some ladies come early to tie flies and chat and eat dinner.

Q: How much do I have to participate?
A: Participation in the club is strictly voluntary. We do ask our members to give some of their time back to the club in some way. There are many different opportunities for volunteering so you can choose what you like. Meetings are not mandatory nor are the GWFF events.

Q: How many members are there?
A: Our membership fluctuates from 75 to 100 members per year. About 40 of our members are active and participate in club functions frequently.

Q: What if I don’t know how to fish at all?
A: You don’t need to know how to fly fish to join our club. We try and help beginner members learn how and we also offer beginner flyfishing clinics for those new to the sport or who just need to brush up on their skills. Learning to fly fish is just getting out and doing it. The more you fish the better you become. We encourage our new beginner members to take part in many club activities and trips. We also have many professionals around Georgia we can recommend to help you learn.

Q: Would I fit in with the group?
A: We encourage everyone to join our club. We even have male members! Our members range from young to old, all professions, grandma’s, housewives, single, divorced, married…you name it, we got it. Join and bring your spouse or significant other or come by yourself. In no time, you will feel a part of the group.

Q: Do I have to spend a lot of money for equipment?
A: It is recommended that you try fishing a couple of times before you go out and invest in equipment. The club does offer boots and waders in limited sizes to borrow and also fly rods and reels. Members have also been known to share their equipment with newcomers. We will make recommendations on what to buy depending on your budget. You can start with a rod and reel under $100 and go from there.

Q: Do I need a fishing license?
A: You will need to purchase a fishing license if you plan to fish. You can purchase licenses online or at any store that sells fishing equipment. Make sure to purchase a license AND a Trout Stamp. The yearlong license is the best bargain.

Q: What if I am interested in learning how to tie flies?
A: We have had fly tying clinics in the past.

Q: How do I get my wife to like fishing?
A: Everyone is different. It would be suggested that you don’t try and teach your wife to fly fish, having one or both of you join our club would be a great start. Ladies are often intimidated by the fact that fishing is “perceived” to be a man’s sport, however, fishing is for both men and women and can be enjoyed by both together! It is a great way to get outdoors and spend quality time. Start slow, fish during warmer months so that it is enjoyable to be outside and have your wife fish with a guide a couple of times before you take her alone.
