Donald W. Pfitzer
A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Received undergraduate and graduate degrees at University of Tennessee, in Entomology and Botany. Served on the faculty at the University of Tennessee as lecturer in medical and economic entomology.
Senior Fisheries Biologist and Chief of Information and Education Section with Tennessee Game and Fish Commission. Conducted ecological research on the large TVA impoundments and the tailwaters below the impoundments that resulted in the popular tailwater trout fisheries throughout the southeast. Produced 13 wildlife movies, conducted a weekly television program, "Woods and Waters",.
Employed by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as Fish and Wildlife Biologist, Conservation Education Coordinator and Public Affairs Officer. Retired from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 1988, as Assistant Regional Director for the Southeast Region.
Member of the Chattahoochee Coldwater Fishery Foundation.
In the 8th year of quarterly macro-invertebrate study of the Chattahoochee River below Buford and Morgan Falls dams; involving 33 sample sites using two sampling techniques. The Foundation has developed a Hatch Chart based on this data
Member of national, regional and state Outdoor writers associations. Active in environmental education, taught wildlife ecology for teachers summer workshops in Tennessee and Georgia for 20 years. Active in the field of outdoor writing and wildlife photography; publishing many popular and technical article in this field. Two books; "Hiking Georgia", and "Scenic Driving Georgia", Falcon Publishing Co. |
