Why Fly Fishing? It provides beneficial exercise, relieves stress and is a wonderful way to spend time outdoors in a beautiful setting. Who can participate? Breast cancer survivors, especially those beginning to resume normal physical activity after mastectomy or other surgery. There is no cost for the fly fishing instruction and activities and equipment is provided for the day. The number of participants is limited to approximately 20. If you would like to participate, please contact Suzanne Chalk as soon as possible. Applicants will be chosen on a first come first serve basis. Who is organizing the retreat? Local women fly fishers who are members of Georgia Women Flyfishers are providing the expertise and instruction. Other volunteers and medical personnel will be present for the event. What will the retreat day be like? Each participant can take the day at their own pace. Some participants attend all the mini-clinics and fish in the afternoon. Some participants just like to enjoy the outdoors and may only feel able to participate in the morning clinics. It is up to each participant to the level of participation for the day.
Will we get to fish? Free time has been allotted in the afternoon for each participant to try their hand at catch and release fly fishing. Each participant will have a volunteer assisting them with fishing. What do we need to bring? Light breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided for the day. Water and other beverages will be also be available. Everything is provided for each participant. Hats and polarized sunglasses and sunscreen are also encouraged. |
